Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say early analysis indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
A high-ranking official stated the attack left him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
