Larian Studios Announce a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Yet

The anticipation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it sparked the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable with a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also famously flexible, letting players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
