19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks his maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from that period of 2023.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, comprising in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive approach and regular reactions on court had caused some to question if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.

But the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play positively, supported by an better serve.

He fought back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial professional championship, took control to create a final set.

The opponent rescued four early-game break points in a close final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
