The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Whenever a significant awards ceremony approaches, you'll find an outcry for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and satisfy the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

My colleague has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. Equally deserving are tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession within the realm of gaming, showing incredible range they hardly constitute one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies offer these genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything in 2014
  • Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked that year
  • Only a few logic titles scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games count as most popular titles globally and have been for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals popular creative games competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators function at the demanding boundary interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
